Vacation is Murder by Carolyn Arnold, a review (without spoilers)

Note: Although the main characters of this novel are married, I do not recommend it to anyone who avoids reading stories that contain inappropriate content (kissing, how they feel when they do it, etc.). There are people whose religious beliefs have given them a deeper understanding of how sacred love is between two people who are married. So, it must be treated with respect and should not be within reach of an outsider's imagination. I had to mention that because I am one of them.

I enjoyed reading this novel. It may be a light read but the plot's mysteries and twists kept me on my toes. Instead of the usual sympathizing or empathizing with a character, I felt like another character in the book myself. I was also interpreting clues, solving mysteries, and... solving more mysteries. Overall, Vacation is Murder took me for a ride filled with adventure!

Orenda by Ruth Silver, a review (without spoilers)

Note: I do not recommend this book to anyone who avoids reading stories that contain inappropriate content (kissing, etc.). There are people whose religious beliefs have given them a deeper understanding of how two people, who are not married, should act. I had to mention that because I am one of them.

Orenda has reminded of the reason why I am a fan of Ruth Silver’s: dull moments do not exist in her works! She does not exaggerate things and yet she manages to leave her readers wanting for more. How is that even possible?

Anyway, this book is an exciting read from cover to cover. It starts off by giving the readers an insight of what Orenda, a parallel world, is like. Then, it ends with... well, it leaves you wanting for more. (This review contains no spoilers. What did you expect?) As for the romantic scenes, Ruth Silver made me feel like I was in high school all over again. The author took one step at a time establishing the relationship between the lead character and her lover, which made it realistic. Basically, It was the right amount of love thrown into the mix: not too potent and not too bland. Although things took an unexpected turn between the two lovers, I hope to see a sequel to their relationship... in the coming sequel this fall titled Elfinland (Orenda Book 2).

While you are anticipating for the sequel, you can also read Ruth Silver's other works:

1. Aberrant
2. Moirai
3. Isaura

Lil stood firm, sword-in-hand, staring at the beast as it flew directly at her. “How do I kill it?” She raised the sword above her head with two hands. Hudson glanced at her. “With what we taught you. The dragon is no different than a man.” “It has wings and is flying at me. I’d say it’s different!”

Moirai (Aberrant #2) by Ruth Silver, a review

Paperback cover
It just keeps getting better!

During the first few pages, I was afraid that Moirai would not live up to its prequel, Aberrant. Olivia’s immaturity in the beginning of the story irked me and I thought it would ruin the entire novel for me. A little patience, however, was all I needed to realize that Moirai is where Olivia’s growth to maturity will be witnessed.

Basically, Moirai continues to follow Olivia on her action-packed adventures as she, along with the rebels, prepares to take down the government of Cabal.  Readers will be in for a roller coaster ride as new revelations unfold along the way and as Olivia’s relationship with Joshua deepens in the midst of all the chaos. Simply put, there’s never a dull moment in this novel.

Aberrant by Ruth Silver, a review (without spoilers)

After jumping into the dystopian world of books, I was on a roll. I read books and their sequels such as Delirium, Matched, Divergent, and Enclave. However, I only read books occasionally so reading eighteen books over the summer burned me out. After recovering, I found myself straying from the dystopian genre. Its appeal has become rather dull after being exposed to it plenty of times. I wanted something new.

Enter, Aberrant... Initially, I thought that Aberrant had nothing new to bring to the table. I kept telling myself to keep reading in the beginning. Guess what? I am glad I did! Aberrant kept me on my toes with every twist and turn. Despite my initial doubts, its action-packed scenes were like silent promises that something great lies beyond. More importantly, what I found in common between me and the characters was we were put under a test. In return, we were rewarded with a very exciting revelation!
